hair removal

There are many different types of hair removal. Some can be done by yourself with the use of store products such as different creams or razors. All over your body, there are different types of hair. Depending on the type of hair, it can be easier or more difficult to remove. Before removing it, it is important to understand the different types of hair and methods of removing it.

All hair is made from keratin. It is a hard protein beneath the skin at the base of the hair follicle. There are two types on your body:

  • Vellus: this hair is soft, fine, and short. Most women have vellus hair on their chest, back, and face. It can be darker and more noticeable on some women than others. This type of hair helps maintain temperature by providing insulation.
  • Terminal: it is coarser, darker, and longer than vellus hair. It is the type of hair that grows on your head. On men, terminal hair begins to grow on the face and other parts of the body such as the chest, legs, and back. It is meant to provide cushioning and protection.

In some cases, involving excess hair growth, hirsutism hair can be grown depending on different medical conditions. Some medications and steroids can cause hirsutism hair to grow as well.

Hair Removal Techniques

Two techniques that are temporary and you can do yourself are shaving and plucking. Shaving only removes the tip of the hair shaft that has grown out of the skin. Plucking grips the hair at the root and pulls it out.

From the store, you can buy wax or depilatories to remove hair. Wax pulls out the hair root and the dead skin cells with it. It can either be applied warm or cold. Depilatories are either a cream or liquid that removes hair from the skin’s surface. It works by reacting with the protein, keratin, and dissolves it.
