If you’re curious about noninvasive double chin treatments, but not sure which treatment would best suit you, we have some information for you. The Kybella and CoolMini treatments can target the same areas of fat but are unique in the way they kill the fat. Let’s compare!
What exactly are they?
Kybella is an FDA approved nonsurgical injection technique. The injection process uses deoxycholic acid injections that target, absorb, and destroy fat cells under the chin. That results in not storing fat anymore in the injected area.
CoolMini is a new FDA approved attachment to Coolsculpting, a nonsurgical procedure that freezes fat cells and destroys them.
How long do the treatments take?
Kybella takes about 5 minutes of injections.
One CoolMini session takes around an hour.
How many treatments are needed to see results?
The number of procedures depends on how much fat is under the chin and the experience level of the doctor that would be performing the procedure. If you choose Kybella, you can receive up to six injections with one month in between each injection.
CoolMini offers multiple sessions as well to get the results you want.
What is the pain from each procedure?
Similar to a needle, there is a small pricking pain that could be experienced. Clinics can apply topical creams that will numb the area during the treatment at a patient request. There can also be some pain 6 to 8 hours due to swelling after the injections, but those can be minimalized with oral pain medicine as well.
CoolMini has minimal pain as there aren’t any injections that are done during the freezing process. Those with a low tolerance to temperature can often experience discomfort and sharp pains due to the strong suction and the cool plates.
Who are the ideal candidates?
The ideal candidate for Kybella is 18 years old or older that has suffered from moderate to extreme fat under the chin.
As for CoolMini, the treatment works best for women with looser and mature skin.
Whichever route you choose to take, there will be swelling and soreness in your neck. The swelling can cause some difficulties with swallowing foods if you decide to focus under your chin because it is near your throat. However, medication can be taken to help reduce the level of difficulty. But there are two differences.
Kybella causes the area of injection to stay numb for a more extended period, up to a month to be exact. The swelling can last from 20 to 28 hours after the injections.
CoolMini also causes numbness, but it goes away in a shorter period. It can also miss specific areas of the neck or chin and can create what is known as a “shelf effect.” That means you can see where the fat was killed off in the desired area, but the surrounding fat that the CoolMini did not get will remain.
Now, it all comes down to the effectiveness of each treatment:
Which one will have the most and best permanent results?
Both treatments give permanent results of fat loss in the desired area! However, as mentioned above, a side effect to the CoolMini is the “shelf effect.” That will never happen if you choose to use Kybella because the injections are very accurate, and it sculpts out the neck and jaw area while tightening the skin. As mentioned above, there is a lot of swelling with Kybella, but the more swelling, the more tightening! The Kybella can also contour the area, while the CoolMini cannot. Agave Laser and Aesthetic Clinic in San Antonio offers the Kybella treatment! Some of the benefits of this provided treatment are:
